Approach
The perfect photo requires practice, patience and discipline.
Every photograph here began as a wait. The wildlife work set the terms, with long lenses, early starts and a working distance the animal chose.
The portraits, the weddings and the landscapes are made the same way at closer range. The camera goes up early and is then left alone, because the picture usually arrives a few minutes after everyone has stopped performing for it.
Light is chosen before anything else. Most of this work happens in the first or last hour of the day, and the rest of it waits on the weather.

The Edmonton Humane Society
The camera goes to the animals first, the wild ones out in the field and the ones asleep on somebody’s couch.
The animal’s comfort outranks the photograph, which in practice means distance, quiet and a long wait. It is practice, patience and discipline pointed at something alive.
